My Weekend in NYC

This past weekend I decided to make a last minute trip to New York City. An independent movie that I had been waiting to see was having a screening at a theater in The Village and one of the actors was going to be there doing a Q&A afterward. I searched for a hotel near the theater and ran across The Marlton Hotel, where I ended up staying. When I travel I prefer to stay in boutique hotels rather than a generic chain. The hotel was brimming with character and the staff was all very friendly and helpful. Even if you don't stay there, it's worth popping in for a cocktail.

One of my friends works in the city a few blocks away from where I was staying, and another one of my friends was headed into the city for a concert which was also only a few blocks away, so I ended up being able to meet up with both of them and spend a little time together before the movie. Funny how it worked out that way. I grabbed a bite to eat at Republic; ordering the Spicy Coconut Chicken Broth Noodles. The food was delicious, and their frosé was pretty good too!

After heading out, I went back to my hotel and changed into something comfortable before walking over to the theater. I decided to go over a little early in case people were lining up outside, and they were. Just before 10, when the movie was supposed to start they let us in the theater, which probably held about 200 people. Matthew Gray Gubler (who you may know from Criminal Minds or 500 Days of Summer) came out and introduced the film, 68 Kill. The movie itself was completely outrageous and twisted; I loved it. Afterward, there was a Q&A where anybody could ask any questions they had. Since the movie showing sold out so fast the theater had added another showing at midnight so they kind of shoved us out of the theater in order to make room for the people waiting in line outside to come in and get a seat. A few of us stayed outside chatting for awhile and eventually Matthew came out with a couple of his friends. He was super nice and took photos with everyone and signed things for anyone who asked.

All in all, it was a fabulous weekend! I was glad I could turn an impromptu trip into the city to see a movie into an opportunity to visit friends that I haven't seen in awhile. Let me know if you did anything fun this past weekend down in the comments!

  2. Oh my gosh! What a new york city experience. I live in the city and forgot how much fun this place can be! I love that you stayed in a boutique hotel. I will have to check that place out. Republic is one of my favorite bars to go to for happy hour. Along with froze, they have frozen sangria which is sooooo good. Thanks for sharing all these amazing fun details. I kinda need to see that movie now! XO, Ellese
