I started my health journey around my senior year of high school. Before that I never really thought much about that stuff. I quit dancing competitively my freshman year of high school, which sort of threw my body into shock. I gained a lot of weight. My prom dress was a size 16. I started going to the gym a few days a week after school and making little changes like swapping out soda for water. I slowly made more and more small changes that focused more and more on overall healthy living and less on just losing weight. I am constantly learning more and evolving. I am happy to say I am now back down to a size 4. I wanted to start sharing more of my health adventure with you so that we can learn from each other and swap knowledge and tips.
Here are some of the healthy essentials that I use on a daily basis:
Fresh Air // I hate stale air. I find it suffocating. Most days I take the dog for a walk after lunch to get away from the computer and get some fresh air. This gives both my eyes and mind a little break and allows me to get moving. In the very least, I have open my windows everyday for about 10-15 minutes. The only exception is when it's really hot and humid in the summer, then I would just be letting gross air inside.
Vita-Mix // A Vita-Mix is definitely an investment, but I use mine everyday and sometimes multiple times a day. It is really versatile, you can make smoothies, hot soups, ice cream, your own flours, nut butters, and things like almond milk in it. I love my green smoothies and what I love about the Vita-Mix is that it completely liquifies the greens. There aren't any gross leafy chunks in your smoothies. I don't know from experience, because I've only had mine for about a year but I have heard that they will also last you a lifetime. Apparently with all the millions of machines they have sold they only have two repair men to fix them because they just don't break. I really shopped around to find the best price and found that you can get the most bang for your buck by either purchasing a refurbished machine (it still comes with the 5 year warranty) or getting it new from Costco or QVC when it is the special value of the day.
Foam Roller // I absolutely love my foam roller. I've been doing it for awhile now. Not only does it feel really good while you are doing it, but it has a bunch of health benefits. It offers you self-myofascial release which basically just helps relax contracted muscles by applying pressure. It helps loosen up your muscles, increases flexibility, reduces cellulite, and increases blood circulation. Did I mention it feels really good?
Coconut Oil // I am one of those people that uses coconut oil for everything. I cook with it, bake with it, use it on my hair, as shaving cream, and in DIY body scrubs and lotions. I usually get the huge tub from Costco which will run you about $15, but in the grocery store it's about $11 for a much smaller jar of the same quality so it's a really good value.
Water Bottles // I take water with me everywhere I go. Sometimes I take 3-4 water bottles with me to make sure that I have enough to drink throughout the day. My favorite water bottles are my bkr and my S'well bottle. Respectively they are made of glass and stainless steal, so I don't have to be worried about chemicals leaking out of the plastic into my water. They're also pretty cute to carry around, so that helps.
Essential Oil Diffuser // Essential oils have been such a great addition to my life. There are thousands of uses and benefits. Sometimes I need a mid-day pick me up, to boost my immune system, to stop a migraine in its tracks, or help falling asleep. Sometimes I just want enjoy the scent of them and other times I'm looking for the health benefits. Either way, I use one of my diffusers every single day.
Facial Mists // I've mentioned on here before how much I love facial mists. There is just something so refreshing about them. They help keep my face hydrated and help me get an extra dose of antioxidants delivered to my skin. I have a few different ones that I really love and a bunch that I can't wait to try out.
