A Traditional Connecticut Home

If you don't think this home is perfect, then you're wrong. It's classic and modern and fun. I love everything about it. When can I move in?

The past four days in a row I've gotten a migraine at some point during the day. If any of you struggle with migraines, you know how debilitating they can be. I've tried several different medications including preventatives that worked but had a staggering amount of side effects. I've finally found a couple of things that work for mine. By the suggestion of one of my yoga instructors I've been using peppermint oil to help rein in the migraines. You must put one or two drops of peppermint essential oil in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, and cup them over your nose. As you breathe the peppermint oil helps open everything up. If I can feel a migraine coming and can catch it with this technique most of the time it never comes. This also works if you are stuffed up or feeling nauseous. I've also found that Maxalt works for me. It takes a few hours but eventually my migraine goes away. Every now and then if it's a persistent one, it will come back and I have to take another one but it works better than anything else I've ever taken. Do any of you suffer from migraines? If so, how do you deal?

  1. This home is PERFECT. I love the decor!

I'm so sorry to hear about your migraine dilemma. I suffered from migraines for over 10 years. Sometimes I'd get them for 2-3 days straight. It was awful. And you really do feel them coming :( I never took any medication because the side effects freaked me out.

I cured my migraines naturally. I did this by cutting out artificial sweeteners and junk food (processed food too, like hot dogs) from my diet. I avoid anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup, aspartame (found in all chewing gum), sucralose, etc. You should try it! And let me know how it works for you. I know all too well what it's like to feel like you can't do anything or go anywhere because of the pain.

    1. Yes, I get the same thing where I get them for days straight. Unfortunately I don't eat any artificial sweeteners and I only eat a really minimal amount of junk food, dairy, and refined sugars. I also cut out gluten from my diet. My triggers are more hormonally, and scent triggered. I also get them if I'm in a room with florescent lights for too long. Weird, I know!

I would definitely recommend the peppermint oil method for you! It's all natural and really does help!

  3. Love this home!

So sorry about the migraines. I too have a yucky history with them - mostly hormonal and unfortunately they would recur monthly, with some months being better than others. I will tell you that you're going to want to order this product immediately. Origin's Peace of Mind. I LOVE it. http://www.origins.com/product/3821/11719/Bath-Body-Hair/Daily-Essentials/Sensory-Therapy/Peace-of-Mind/On-the-spot-relief/index.tmpl
My migraine pattern also had the lovely addition of "migraine hangovers" which would leave me feeling awful for about a week after. Good times! The only 98% effective remedy? No migraines when I was pregnant!

  6. I was treated for migraines with Topamax (well, the generic form). My headaches went away, I lost 30 pounds, and I had amazing energy. The problem? I was higher than a kite the entire time I was on it. I actually don't remember too much about the three months or so I was on it. What ended up curing my migraines was a root canal. I had it done maybe 5-6 months after I started treating my migraines and I haven't had a single problems since then.

    1. Thanks so much for your comment! I also tried Topamax and it several very scary things including making my nose bleed all the time so I went off it. That's an amazing side effect of a root canal! I've never had one but I hear they're not fun.
